If anyone had told me...say 20 years ago, that I would create my own record label in the near future I would have laughed out loud.
If anyone had told me....say 10 years ago, that I would create my own record label in the very near future I would still be laughing.
Welcome to NSS Music
When I came onto the "scene" in 1981 everything was very different.
I enjoyed the wonderful feeling of being an exclusive artist...part of a family that you were proud of. And later being a free agent and having the freedom to work with a great variety of artists and projects.
I feel privileged to have had those experiences. Whether I was trying to or it just sank in naturally....I learned so very much.
And I also watched the industry change before my very eyes. I felt it too.
Time is an amazing teacher.....along the way I began to see that what I wanted to do and create as an artist was being compromised greatly and even sometimes stopped altogether.
We all have many choices to make that determine our fate and future....if only we have the courage to follow through.
For this reason I am extraordinarily grateful to the 2 key figures in my life who literally forced me to do this.....by patiently showing me that it was in fact possible and by appealing to a very basic concept brought alive in me...that is to create and own.
I have no control or authority of the vast amount of music I have already recorded.
Whether these recordings stay on the shelves or are discontinued or are compiled and released in some other form I may or may not approve of....this is all out of my hands. I can never own those performances. My performances........until now.
Welcome to NSS Music
Okay let me say that starting your own company is a pretty challenging thing to do while you are still maintaining a full time career.
But it has been and continues to be such an incredibly exciting process.
Creating an album...from conception to completion. Meaning what exactly?
What is the repertoire, who should make the musical arrangements, what order should we hear them, who's playing, who's guesting, when and where can it be recorded, what should the contract say, the design of the cover, booklet, CD, production costs, post production costs, distribution and on and on and on. But I am loving every minute of it...honestly.
What I have planned for NSS Music is at first...just to get the company going. Create and release albums on a regular time schedule. The first releases will be my own albums. Some of these will be LIVE. There is nothing like a LIVE album. I am so happy about the repertoire and artists I have worked with on these albums. And later I would very much like to record and release other artists. Not necessarily just classical but any artist I believe in. Hopefully I will be able to start this process in the very near future...this will of course depend on revenue that the first releases generate.
And so now I ask you for your support.
NSS Music is my baby....I intend on nurturing this company until it has reached its potential....which is to be a haven for artists. Record labels are nothing without the artists they record. Something the suits forgot a long time ago.
This company is my dream....please support NSS Music. Buy an album, tell your friends about it, let me know what you think.
It is important to me that you the consumer, the listener, the fan are happy and satisfied and maybe even a little surprised as well.
I have a lot of energy and a very young heart.
Thank you all,
Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg
